The Marchlyn Mawr loop is a great trail to view the Ogwen Valley, Snowdon itself and out over Anglesey to the Irish Sea.

Marchlyn Mawr Trail Route 01 | Snowdonia | thefrozendivide

1. I park at the top of the Marchlyn Reservoir entrance and head up the long winding road to the water. The path up to Carnedd Y Filiast is clear even in tough conditions.

2. Once Filiast is summited I’ve got the drop on my right hand side so it’s just a wide open trail to navigate to Mynydd Perfydd and then on to the amazing Elidir Fawr.

3. As usual for most mountains in Snowdonia I take a different route everytime, but heading North Westerly off Elidir Fawr gives the option of some quarry exploration or just a straight flat out run back to the parking.

I plan my routes across Snowdonia & the Lake District with the Ordnance Survey OS Maps app, using both Google’s satellite view and Instagram photographs to learn about the terrain before I visit.

Please note my trail maps on here are for basic interest level only: if you intend on visiting these areas you should do extensive homework and fully research each location from a different source.
