This awesome loop taking in Aran Fawddwy summit provides a great workout, killer views and a wonderful wide open downhill line to run hard.

Aran Fawddwy Trail Route 01 | Snowdonia | thefrozendivide

1. From the car park, I head through the farm and follow the waterfall up onto the tops.

2. A little dog leg over to summit Gwaun Y Llwyni breaks the boggy straight line to Aran Fawddwy summit.

3. Aran Fawddwy summit is tremendous, and I’ve ended up spending hours of my life sat here, fully intending to run the whole thing non stop… the line round to Drysgol summit is lots of fun, with the view over Creiglyn Dyfi on my left.

4. Between Drosgyl & Waun Goch there’s a choice between taking the ridge line over Pen Yr Allt Uchaf (great sunsets looking back from here) or the long diagonal that bisects the mountain side. I’ve marked the higher line on the route photos, but the diagonal really is the more fun trail to run – a non stop open path through ferns to the bottom.

I plan my routes across Snowdonia & the Lake District with the Ordnance Survey OS Maps app, using both Google’s satellite view and Instagram photographs to learn about the terrain before I visit.

Please note my trail maps on here are for basic interest level only: if you intend on visiting these areas you should do extensive homework and fully research each location from a different source.
